Few living cats have seen this place, as it is hard to access if you do not know where you are going. A small passageway hidden behind a waterfall leads into a massive cave completely pitch black. As you walk further into the depths you can see a faint blue glow, upon further inspection you can see glow worms clinging to almost every surface. A large pool of water sits in the middle of the large cave, still as glass and vibrant as the full blue moon. Here is where Medicine cats can communicate on important matters, share knowledge and friendship.

In order to access StarClan however, a medicine cat is required to submerge themselves in the icy waters and swim to a singular rock formation in the center of the pool. Enough to seat four cats comfortably. Once here the medicine cat is free to walk in the dream realm to visit StarClan ancestors.

As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky is painted in hues of fiery orange that haze into the creeping deep purples of the night. Cats from both clans witness this peculiarly vivid sky, and the island seems to hold its breath with expectancy. Tonight is no ordinary night; it is the night of the gathering at the Lake of Stars. A sacred event that calls together the medicine cats of each clan.

The serene and mystical body of water reflects colorful spots of bioluminescence that decorate the cave, creating a mirror image of the cave's ceiling above. Cascading water reigns, and the mist from the waterfall will be a chill reminder of the sacredness of their paths when it brushes their pelts.

With the half-moon hanging in the sky, StarClan beckons the medicine cats of ShoalClan and EmberClan to travel for the gathering at the Lake of Stars. It is a night for sharing wisdom, communion, and perhaps for dreams foretelling the challenges that lie ahead.

The island golden hour was certainly something to behold. Tonight's in particular seemed to be putting on a show in light of the event about to transpire. Vibrant shades of orange, red, pink, and purple danced across the sky as Piperpeck and Lambpaw set out. It was a beautiful sight but Piperpeck's mind was elsewhere. Their thoughts did not race, more... meandered through their head. Still, it made them a less-than-stellar conversationalist for the journey - unfortunately for Lambpaw.

Before they set out, Piperpeck provided the apprentice with a combination of three herbs: ginger lily (preemptive, for the aches they would surely feel in their paws after the night's travel), bamboo shoots (for strength and hunger, as it would be a late night and quite some time before they would be able to eat again), and palm fronds (for hydration). The three would provide both of them with a little extra energy and support for the night.

Her focus, now, resided with the previous full moon gathering. Rather, the lack thereof. Fallowstar and his chosen companions had set out for the gathering only to find, upon their arrival, that the tide had not receded. It was a clear sign from StarClan that there was to be no gathering for that moon, but no explanation to go with it. Her own sign from the coral readings had prophesied a conflict at the gathering - not that it wouldn't happen at all. Something had changed.

But what?

Hopefully tonight's meeting would provide some insight. Both towards the attitudes of the EmberClanners, and hopefully from their ancestors as well. Although Piperpeck held a certain disdain for the methods of an EmberClan medicine cat, she retained a soft spot for Dogskull and his predecessor. The legitimacy of their supposed obsidian visions was one thing, their right to the position was something else entirely. If StarClan took issue with either of them holding their position they hadn't made it known, and Piperpeck would be the last to question StarClan's wishes.

Rushing water guided her paws as they drew closer. In her own time as an apprentice, hearing that sound on the approach always made her skin tingle. The thought of this place where the island met the stars - it always felt mystical. Now, it felt like birthright. Something made for her from the very moment she entered this world and ingrained in the very fiber of her being.

With the waterfall before them, they turned to face Lambpaw at last. She had no idea if Dogskull was already within. If he was, he could wait a little longer.

"Are you ready?" she purred. There was an uncharacteristic twinkle in her eye, a giddiness in her form. Being able to communicate with other medicine cats about treatments and illnesses was a boon. But... accessing a direct line to their ancestors was a feeling like no other.

This would be Lambpaw's first experience, and she couldn't wait to share.

▷ Today was a very special day. Or well, tonight specifically was a special one. Lambpaw would be attending their first-ever medicine cat gathering at the Lake of Stars. It was a very big deal, and the brown-and-white apprentice’s forepaws buzzed with excitement, proving it quite difficult to remain calm. They'd eagerly tap their paws on the ground, trying to do it quietly as possible so they wouldn't make too much noise. As soon as Piperpeck started to lead the way, Lambpaw quickly followed after the tortoiseshell she-cat, gazing up at the beautiful colors that were painted across the sky overhead. Did it look like this because of their special occasion, or was it merely just a stunning conscience? Lambpaw didn't know, but also did not wish to ruin the untouched silence with a trivial question.

Usually, the young feline would feel quite tired and desire their nest around this time, but along with the helpful herbs that their mentor provided them with and the childish elation that coursed through their body, Lambpaw felt unstoppable. They felt like they could run laps around the island! Would they actually speak with StarClan members tonight? Either that, or the small apprentice would just observe all the conversations that the Lake of Stars shared with Piperpeck. No matter where they were involved, Lambpaw was honored to participate tonight.

As the two ShoalClan medicine cats walked together towards their destination, Lambpaw allowed their thoughts to wander. Being only seven moons old, they had only heard stories or directly seen how their clan talked about EmberClan, but tonight would be the first face-to-face experience that they'd have with the other clan. Would tonight's gathering be filled with hostility, or was there some kind of unspoken peace amongst the healers, despite...everything? Lambpaw hoped it would be the latter, but the newly-named medicine cat apprentice was prepared for either outcome—as much as Lambpaw could be in such a limited amount of time. They would wonder about how different EmberClan was when compared to ShoalClan. In another lifetime, could they have all been friends..?

Their ears perked up at the rising sound of rushing water, the newfound noise drawing them out of their thoughts and back to the present. Lambpaw glanced at Piperpeck as the pair approached the seemingly-otherworldly waterfall. The sight laid out before the small apprentice made their tiny heart race inside their chest, eagerness and anxiety swirling around together within Lambpaw's belly. This was a really important moment in their life, one that was among the many that they encounter down the path of becoming ShoalClan's next medicine cat.

Piperpeck's familiar voice made the small brown-and-white kitty turn their gaze away from the waterfall to look up at their mentor. Lambpaw smiled brightly as their bushy tail pointed straight up into the air to express all the excitement that churned inside them right now. "Yes, ready as I'll ever be!" They chirped as a response, tapping their forepaws on the ground once more, "Let's go!" All the possible worries and what-ifs that tried to consume the curly-haired apprentice were able to disappear for the moment, letting Lambpaw genuinely enjoy their first medicine cat gathering. Despite being one to bottle up their emotions now and again, there was no hiding how giddy this young cat was to be able to see and experience what Piperpeck had for various moons before Lambpaw's time.

The air was crisp. The sun was finally deciding to rest. This just meant it was time for Dogskull, Patchpaw and Darkpaw to prepare for their journey to The Lake Of Stars. This would be his apprentices first gathering for the medicine cats so he would need to lay down some ground rules.

"First. Whatever opinions you have about Shoalclan, they're being forgotten for tonight. Either of you acts out, I will not hesitate to speak of a punishment with Singestar and Grayflame."

Dogskull felt like a queen speaking to her kits about going to their first meeting. It made him feel weird, and not the good weird.

"Second. If the Shoalclan Medicine Cat asks why there's two of you we'll say it was Starclans wishes."

There was no way Dogskull was going to explain why Singestars paranoia had led to Dogskull taking on two apprentices. That would just make the clan sound like they weren't able to in training healers alive.

"And finally. There will be no talk of war. Understood?"

Dogskull didn't wait for a response as he headed into the herb storage and brought out traveling herbs for all three of them. The medicine cat quickly explained what each of them were for before adding that this wasn't a official lesson. Then off they went.

The half-moon was high in the sky and Dogskull led his two apprentices to their destination. There was no conversation. The most that Dogskull did that would count as Interacting with the two medicine apprentices was to stop mid walk, turn to make sure Darkpaw and Patchpaw were behind him, do a half circle around them so he was in the back and tell them to go. The tom would do this every time he noticed he was in front. His mentality was that he didn't know what animals were looking for a midnight snack.

Dogskull's ear flicked as the sound of the waterfall became more and more apparent. Dogskull turned to look at the apprentices one last time before walking out of the bushes and setting his blue eyes on the waterfall.

"We go through there."

Dogskull pointed his paw at the waterfall before moving it down and seeing two other cats. One was clearly Piperpeck but the other cat. Dogskull had no idea who they were. From the size they were probably the same age as Patchpaw and Darkpaw.

So it seems that Piperpeck had also taken on an apprentice. Dogskull let out a small hmph before making his way over making sure the two toms were following him.

"Piperpeck."

Dogskull spoke as he let his and his apprentices presence be known. The tom turned his head and looked at the unknown cat.

"And your name?"

It was obvious who this was but Dogskull wanted a name to the face.

His tail was flicking up and down in excitment as his mentor, Dogskull, led he and his fellow medicine cat apprentice, Darkpaw, for the medicine cat half moon meeting. He had never been very worried about the ShoalClan cats. In fact, until Dogskull brought them up, he began to worry about all the battles and stuff like that. Patchpaw's tongue slid out and he rubbed his muzzle again, trying to get the taste of traveling herbs out of his mouth. It was obvious that Dogskull was not very excited for this. Dogskull was the same as always, plain, scary-looking, and stern. It reminded the medicine cat apprentice of the elders. Always stern and none too kind. Of course, Patchpaw never spoke this out loud. If he did, Dogskull would be sure to punish him like he had said to the two new medicine cat apprentices. Patchpaw's tail flicked from side to side as the trio left camp and he caught his ear once on a twig after being too excited. He made sure to be careful after that incident.

Patchpaw could feel Dogskull's gaze burning his pelt. Dogskull could have killed a fox with just a simple glare of his. With a nervous swallow, he bounded a bit faster after Dogskull, who had taken the lead after they arrived at the waterfall. He now knew one of the medicine cat's names. Piperpeck. But he was curious who the other ShoalClan medicine cat was- probably the apprentice, concerning their size and excited face. Piperpeck seemed like the opposite of Dogskull. They looked happy for their apprentice, and they certainly didn't have the glare of Dogskull. He shivered when Dogskull let out a hmph. That was another one to prove Patchpaw's point.

He drifted into his thoughts, wondering what it was like for the other clan. Would they eat fish everyday? Did they use the same herbs as EmberClan did? Patchpaw's tail twitched as he heard his own feet scuffle a little, snapping him back to the present.

Dogskull was clearly not looking over at his apprentices but Patchpaw still got the feeling that Dogskull knew what Patchpaw was doing. Still shaking a bit, he politely dipped his head over at Piperpeck and the other ShoalClan cat before poking Darkpaw in their side as the other apprentice was doing something yet nothing.

It still surprised Patchpaw that both apprentices were still scared of Dogskull. Then there was Singestar, who had gotten sick and Dogskull was scarier because of that. Whenever Patchpaw wanted to just peek into the leader's den, Dogskull had been right there, with his green glare of death pointed straight at him.

Darkpaw gave a frown as he followed after Patchpaw. To Darkpaw, Patchpaw was one of Darkpaw's close friends or at least to him. That and he was near the apprentice literally almost every day of his life. Not that he minded. He followed in after his mentor staying in caboose before Dogskull started speaking, in all honesty he didn't give an initial reaction, not the same one Patchpaw shared anyways. He kept his silence. He dipped his head toward the other medicine cats, giving a small nod of respect toward his fellow medicine cats.

He stuck close to Patchpaw, tilting his head toward the other as he looked at the medicine cat apprentice. "Hm? What?"

The excitement like electricity that coursed through her now was wholly uncharacteristic side of her, for anyone that saw the medicine cat on a normal day. For Dogskull, it may very well be how the tom expected them to act in any given situation, seeing as they only really interacted at these half-moon meetings.

They lifted their head in greeting as Dogskull appeared with his... two apprentices in tow. One of them appeared more excitable, or maybe nervous, while the other more reserved in their demeanor. Piperpeck briefly wondered if that was Dogskull's choice or not - if she knew anything of the tom, she would towards the latter. It certainly had interesting implications for the clan across the island.

"Dogskull." she replied, offering a smile that was friendly if lacking in true warmth,"Good to see you well."

They would allow Lambpaw the space to introduce themselves before nodding in the direction of the waterfall, "We'd best move along now." she meowed, leading the way,"Nights are short and you can introduce us to your little pair once we're inside."

They didn't want to waste the waning twilight, sure, but their own giddiness also pushed them forward. Piperpeck took a deep breath before plunging past the waterfall. "Watch your step Lambpaw, the rocks are slippery," she called behind her. The path around was small and it was near impossible not to catch some of the torrent on your way through. Her own short coat was not thick enough to keep away the chill the water brought, or that of the depths of the cave itself. A heavy humidity was present here as much as anywhere else on the island but the further they walked and the closer they got to the pool itself, the more it would give way to the classic cavern chill.

Their eyes immediately wanted to adjust to the darkness but it would take a minute of faith and walking blind before the gentle blue glow of the glow of the worms guided their way. Adrenaline kept her warm for now, but for the lanky medicine cat, cold would give way to numbness before the night was over. Upon reaching the edge of the pool, Piperpeck glanced back to make sure everyone had made it safely. Ideally, she and Dogskull wouldn't have to go back through the dark in search of the fresh apprentices.

▷ With their imagination running wild, Lambpaw could hardly wait to see what awaited them beyond the waterfall. Sure, they had heard about the Lake of Stars before here and there, but this was the first time they were seeing it face-to-face! And this was only the beginning! As a medicine cat apprentice, they would be visiting this place for the rest of their life, so it would be wise to become acquainted with everything here, or at least, as much as they were allowed to. Lambpaw would not do anything reckless, as they would stick close to Piperpeck's side and do as they were told. A night like this was special, and the young apprentice did not want to ruin such an important moment. They'd made that clear, more than anything.

A completely new, unfamiliar voice pulled the orange-and-white cat from their thoughts and Lambpaw would turn their head to spot a trio of felines emerge from the bushes. The EmberClan medicine cats! They thought with awe, glancing at Piperpeck as she'd greet the silver-splotched black tom as Dogskull. The other two that accompanied him appeared to be a couple of apprentices—just like Lambpaw! They had no idea that a clan could have three medicine cats, or two medicine apprentices to be more specific, at once. The EmberClan healer would soon ask their name and Lambpaw realized it is now time to speak up and introduce themselves.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Dogskull.." The small apprentice mewed softly, "I'm Lambpaw. What are your names..?" Lambpaw was quick to be friendly and polite, dipping their head to the black-and-silver-haired tom and then redirecting their gaze to the two young tomcats that accompanied him. The ShoalClan apprentice wore a small smile, hoping that their friendly nature wasn't something that would be unwelcomed. It wouldn't take long for Piperpeck to move things along, however, and the white-and-orange apprentice quickly scampered after their mentor. She explained that introductions will continue inside the cave, given that their time together is limited. Lambpaw nodded along, eager to witness more.

As Piperpeck plunged past the waterfall, Lambpaw hesitated for just one second before sucking in a big breath and then pushing through the wall of water to catch up with the tortoiseshell healer. Once they successfully made it onto the other side, the apprentice allowed themselves to exhale and shake their pelt, feeling the water in their pelt weighing them down a bit. Continuing onward, Lambpaw nearly slipped, feeling their small paws slide against the slippery stone surface. The conveniently-timed warning from their mentor was what followed, and Lambpaw nervously watched where they placed their steps as they walked behind Piperpeck. All that the orange-and-white feline had was their nose and paws to guide them.

That thankfully did not last too long though, as the long-haired apprentice witnessed their eyes slowly adjust and be greeted with a memorizing soft blue glow that would reveal itself to them, like a path was created just for the group of medicine cats alone. "Woaaaaah..." Lambpaw whispered to themselves as they gazed up at the ceiling, admiring the very many glow worms that lit up the area with ease. "This is amazing." The apprentice exclaimed, being excited while also trying to keep their voice lowered out of respect. Never before had Lambpaw seen such a stunning sight. They carefully walked over to Piperpeck, standing beside the molly at the edge of the pool. It was hard to accept that they're actually allowed to be here.

His tail flicked eagerly, all nervousness forgotten with the other ShoalClan medicine cats. "I'm Patchpaw." He glanced over at Darkpaw, who was still tilting his ear over at him. The ear looked like a idle mouse waiting to be struck. "Introduce yourself, feather brain!" The apprentice hissed quietly into Darkpaw's ear as began to follow Dogskull, Piperpeck, and the other apprentice- Lambpaw into a beautiful waterfall.

Piperpeck was now leading the way with Lambpaw into the waterfall. Inside, the lack of light disoriented Patchpaw and he nearly bumped into the pelt of Dogskull but instead, he came to a complete stop as he saw the oasis of glow worms that the group was quickly approaching. It was beautiful. Almost like StarClan was watching them from each one of the small lanterns. Now it didn't matter that Patchpaw's pelt was wet and that he had nearly fell onto Dogskull or that Lambpaw was a cute apprentice. All that mattered was the beautiful entrance to the haven of dreams. His white whiskers trembled in shock and he slid a gentle paw over the cave wall, as if expecting another mystery to reveal itself. He was careful to retract his paw as he came over a glow worm. The soreness in his paws retreated as he walked back to Dogskull, Piperpeck, Darkpaw, and Lambpaw.

Dogskull didn't return the smile to Piperpeck as he glanced at the oldest medicine cat here. Dogskull then turned his attention back to the apprentice in front of him introduce themself as Lambpaw. Dogskull didn't offer any more acknowledgement to the apprentice as he turned to his own idiots who were getting acquainted with Lambpaw.

Dogskull watched as Piperpeck took charge in leading the group into the cave. Dogskull stood between his apprentices watching Piperpeck and Lambpaw. The tom then glanced at both of them a muttered a small.

"Remember what I said."

And with that Dogskull started to follow the two Shoalclan cats flicking his tail for the other two to follow after him. The chimera closed his eyes as he walked through the waterfall. Dogskull would never get used to that. The tom did hate getting his fur wet. The tom stopped walking as he shook himself to try and get as much of the water off of him.

Dogskull looked up and watched as Patchpaw had more pep in his step and before the medicine cat knew it the apprentice was up in the front with Lambpaw. Dogskull didn't say anything against it. They were all headed to the same place. Dogskull continued to walk urging Darkpaw to hurry up.

Dogskull took in the sight of the cave. The glow worms seemed more lively in the healers eyes. Dogskull then turned his head to watch as Patchpaw ran his paw along the cave walls. The tom turned his attention to Darkpaw and motioned for the apprentice to get over to the pool.

Dogskull stared at the water then at the rock formation that was settled in the middle of the pool. He brought a paw up and pointed at the rocks before speaking more directly to his own apprentices but of course Lambpaw would learn as well.

"We'll be swimming over there to sit. That is how we'll talk to Starclan."

Dogskull spoke in his usual emotionless voice. Dogskull stared at the rocks. Hopefully it would be able to sit all of them. The most cats he's seen sit on the formation was 3 and that was when Dogskull was an apprentice, it was just him, Piperpeck and Ocelotcry.

"Oh uh, I'm Darkpaw. It's nice to meet you too." He wasn't too open as Patchpaw was, but he gave an up and down glance at Lambpaw, trying to get a read on the other.. they reminded him a bit of Primrosepaw, but perhaps it was just the chipper attitude the cat currently had on. He was quick to just give a small nod and scurry after Dogskull, rather wanting to keep ahead than stay in the back. Though he did look over to glance at Patchpaw with an odd look, but turned his attention back as he looked over at the rock formation. Part of him wasn't sure it'd fit all of them.

He gazed at the water, and nodded. He'd likely follow after Dogskull or Piperpeck. Who's to say? He's getting in that water regardless.

Very well. If Dogskull had no intention of pretending with niceties, Piperpeck wouldn't make an attempt to uphold the ruse either. They were more than comfortable with sitting in an empty med cat to med cat silence while their apprentices yammered on together, none the wiser. If all she did tonight was talk to StarClan, Piper would not be at a loss.

"It will be crowded." She stated plainly, "I don't know that StarClan intended for any more than four cats to sit on the formation... but we will have to make do."

Skimming past the plain-faced jab at Dogskull's odd apprentice situation, they took the first steps into the shimmering pool. The chill water would steal your breath if you weren't careful. Piperpeck managed to abate the shock with deep, controlled breathing.

"The rocks are slippery." they called over their shoulder, aimed at the apprentices, "Don't fall and split your head - I don't have anything on-paw to fix you. That'd be between you and StarClan."

A few steps in, Piperpeck committed to a full plunge. The swim was a short one and it wasn't long before she pulled herself out on the other side, shaking the water out of her pelt and taking a seat.

"Come along now."

▷ As the group of medicine cats headed deeper into the mystical cave, Lambpaw remained as vigilant and considerate as they could manage, keeping their ears perked up as Piperpeck expressed herself about the rather unique situation they're now within. The soft-spoken orange-and-white apprentice then risked a hurried glance behind them at the young tomcats that accompanied Dogskull. Was having more than just a single apprentice truly a bad thing? In their opinion, Lambpaw couldn't help but wonder if it was a blessing rather than a curse. Having more healers just meant more to care for the rest of EmberClan. Maybe it was not the best mindset to have, considering the two clans were not really on the best of terms, but the fluffy ShoalClan apprentice couldn’t bare to wish any ill-will upon any of them, regarding of the troubled history. At the end of the day, were they not all the same species, trying to survive in this harsh island?

Without wasting another moment, the curly-haired ShoalClan apprentice watched as their mentor entered the pool, warning Lambpaw—as well as Darkpaw and Patchpaw—about the slippery surface resting underneath the water's surface. Brief flashes of 'what-ifs' rushed through the nervous feline's train of thought, seeming to torture the poor youth with images of injury and possible death that would occur if they messed up. However, it was no time for hesitation. This was supposed to be a special day and a sudden fit of anxiety would damn well not ruin it for Lambpaw! Once their mentor swam across and urged them forward, the orange-and-white cat forced themselves to move, their heartbeat quickening as they'd dip their paws into the water. The icy temperature immediately shot up their arms and through their entire body, causing Lambpaw to shiver uncomfortably.

Despite the way that the cold gripped the young healer, Lambpaw would enter the spiritual waters just as Piperpeck had shown. They sucked in a breath, closed their eyes and disappeared beneath the surface, paddling across to where the tortoiseshell molly awaited them. Thankfully, it would not take too long as Lambpaw popped back up from the depths and then pulled themselves onto solid ground. The ShoalClan apprentice allowed themselves to breathe as they lightly shook out their pelt, not wanting to accidently spray Piperpeck in the process. Another shiver made it's way through their body, but they didn't stand about like a minnowbrain as the curly-haired healer student sat down beside their mentor, wearing a soft smile while trying not to chatter their teeth. ...Cold...so cold...shiiiiiiiit...

Patchpaw blinked at the water. By the look of Lambpaw's face, it was cold. He stretched out his nose and sniffed at it with his little black nose. Obviously, it didn't really smell like anything but he could smell the damp cave, and the other cats in it from outside of it. The young apprentice watched as the ripples that Lambpaw had made disappear before turning to Dogskull and Darkpaw. He watched them for a few seconds before turning back to the water and putting a paw in hesitantly. Patchpaw froze for a moment, keeping his face straight as his paw quickly turned cold. Sucking in his breath, he took his other paw forward, and his hind legs shifted with it. He felt like he could see StarClan waiting for him in the water already, waiting for him to drown and to join their ranks. No. This wouldn't be the end. He took another step but he realized, as he took his next step, that the water got deeper. Of course. The apprentice lowered his head ducking his whole body into the water as he pushed off from the barely there floor under him. Panic sloshed over him as the water had and he paddled as fast as he could to the nearby rock. He clung to the side, body shivering from the chilly water. But he had done it. He hadn't really gone into water completely, unless it was raining. The only time he had actually went into the water was into a stupid puddle that he had not seen and sunk a foot in. This reminded him that his claws would probably full of dark mud and he curled up his lip a bit at the thought of gross dirt clinging to him. Rising from the bank, he quickly shook some water out of his fur, but not much, as he didn't want to get the ShoalClan cats he barely knew wet again. Then, he edged over next to Lambpaw and sat down uncomfortably, half from the cold and the other half from Lambpaw. He watched Dogskull and Darkpaw on the bank, trying not to look strange on the rock with the ShoalClan medicine cats.
